Southbound lanes are unaffected by the crash. County Road 329 remains closed Thursday, and is likely to remain closed for the near future.ġ-75's center and and inside northbound will remain open during peak traffic periods, said Steve Olson, local public information manager for the Florida Department of Transportation. The Miami to Orlando to Tampa (hopefully) bright line is an example that it can be done. Two northbound lanes of Interstate 75 are now open in Reddick, one day after a dump truck on County Road 329 crashed into the overpass at about mile marker 363. Would love to see more mass transit between cities. Compare that to the Tampa Bay Area which has ~18 Reps, and guess who has more sway in directing dollars for regional transportation projects? Population and politics plays a role - the entire swath of Florida that would benefit from this connectivity has 3-4 Reps. They receive federal dollars, but it’s up to the state legislature/FDOT to decide where to expand new roads and where to spend dollars. Turnpike/Parkway expansion is a state-level problem. For instance, if the Suncoast is expanded up to the US 19/state road 24 (Archer Rd), that could create a temporarily quicker corridor between Tampa/Gainesville and alleviate some of the 75 congestion (until they develop the heck out of the newly connected and expanded 24 and it goes from 2 traffic lights between Gainesville and Cedar Creek to 20). Either will help in giving north-south traffic in the west and center of the state an additional option and temporarily reducing travel times. The State will eventually punch the turnpike further north or keep extending the Suncoast Parkway clear to I-10, or do both. Please see this thread for a detailed breakdown of this rule and its exceptions.Ĭorrect - it’s additional volume straining the 75 corridor, especially between the turnpike and Gainesville.
